IT IS FINISHED!

The title of this article are the last and final words that Jesus spoke from the cross. The Bible says, “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost” (Jn. 19:30). The words translated “It is finished” is tetelestai, which is an accounting term that means “paid in full.” When Jesus uttered these words he was declaring that the debt owed to his father was wiped away completely and forever (GotQuestions). However, Jesus did not owe the debt because he was without sin. The debt that Jesus paid was for the sins of humankind. In this article we will discuss what the finished work of Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross means for believers. THE MISSION OF CHRIST The mission of Jesus Christ was three-fold. First, he was to give his life for the sins of mankind.
