The Personified Word of God

The sins of mankind caused them to be separated from God. Despite their sins, God desired that mankind be reconciled to him. God needed someone to intercede between him and mankind, but there was no one fit to intercede on behalf of mankind. God decided that he would be the one to bring salvation to mankind. Isaiah records, “And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him” (Is. 59:16).

God robed himself in the flesh in the person of his Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Word of God manifested in the flesh. John writes, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the father,) full of grace and truth” (Jn. 1:14).

God’s plan of salvation for mankind began with his Word. God accomplished his plan of salvation for mankind by sending his Word to redeem mankind from the law of sin and death. John writes, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (Jn. 3:16).

Jesus Christ is the personified Word of God. The Bible says that, “. . . the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes” (Matt. 7:28-29). Jesus demonstrated the power of God’s Word during his three-year ministry. Luke writes, “And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, what a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out” (Luke 4:36).

Jesus performed many miracles, signs, and wonders by the authority of the Word of God. King David writes, “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions” (Ps. 107:20).

When a nobleman begged Jesus to come to Capernaum to heal his sick son, Jesus rebuked him for requiring signs and wonders in order to believe. Jesus did not go with the man, but instead the Word of God told the man to “. . . Go thy way; thy son liveth . . .” (Jn. 4:50). As the man was headed home, his servants met him and told him that his son was alive and that the fever left him at the same hour that the Word of God was spoken to him (Jn. 4:51-53).

After asking the lame man at the pool of Bethesda if he wanted to be made whole, the Word of God commanded the man that had the infirmity thirty eight years: “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk” (Jn. 5:5-8). The man was immediately healed and took up his bed and walked (Jn. 5:9).

Jesus encountered a man in the synagogue that had an evil spirit and the Word of God commanded the spirit to “Hold thy peace, and come out of him,” and the evil spirit came out of him (Mk. 1:25-26).

The Word of God marvels at those that have faith in the Word (Matt. 8:10). Jesus marveled at a centurion who approached him about his servant at home who was sick of the palsy, and required that Jesus speak the Word instead of coming to his home (Matt. 8:8-10). Unlike the nobleman mentioned above, the centurion did not need Jesus to come to his home and lay hands on his servent. Being a man of authority, the centurion understood the authority of God’s Word. The Word of God said to the centurion: “Go thy way; and as thou has believed, so be it done unto thee,” and the centurion’s servant was healed in the same hour (Matt. 8:13).

Jesus had compassion on a widow when he saw that her only son’s dead body was being carried out of the city (Lk. 7:12-13). The Word of God spoke to the dead man saying, “Young man, I say unto thee, Arise” (Lk. 7:14). The young man sat up and began to speak (Lk. 7:15).

Jesus was in a ship with his disciples when a great tempest arose in the sea. Jesus’s disciples woke him out of his sleep because they were afraid. Jesus arose, and the Word of God said: “Peace, be still,” and immediately there was a great calm (Mk. 4:36-39).

When Mary and Martha’s brother Lazarus died, Jesus came to the cave and with a loud voice, the Word of God commanded: “. . . Lazarus, come forth” (Jn. 11:43). Lazarus came out of the cave still bound hand and foot with graveclothes (Jn. 11:44).

Ten men that were lepers called to Jesus from a distance asking him to have mercy on them (Lk. 17:12-13). The Word of God commanded the men to: “Go shew yourselves unto the priests” (Lk. 17:14). The ten men were healed of leprosy as they were headed to the priests.

Jesus asked blind Bartimaeus what he wanted him to do for him, and Bartimaeus replied that he wanted to receive his sight. The Word of God said to Bartimaeus: “Go thy way; thy faith has made thee whole” (Mk. 10:52). Bartimaeus immediately received his sight.

When Jesus was hungry and came to a fig tree that had no figs on it, the Word of God said to the tree: “Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever,” and the fig tree began to wither away immediately (Matt. 21:18-19).

As stated before, Jesus Christ is the personified Word of God, or as John writes, “IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (Jn. 1:1). God cannot be separated from his Word. Therefore, all things must respond to the authority of God’s Word. When we learn to trust God’s Word, like the centurion, who understood the authority of God’s Word, God will marvel at our faith in his Word as well.

If you would like to have a personal relationship with Jesus, you must be born-again according to Acts 2:38 which reads, "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
